James MacNeil

James is an incredibly well-rounded and driven young man.  He founded the Rotary Interact Club at JL Ilsley High School, whose purpose is to bring youth age 12 to 18 together to develop leadership skills, while discovering the power of Service Above Self.  James was awarded the Northwest Rotary Club Citizenship Award in 2023, and was selected to represent Halifax and JL Ilsley in Ottawa to meet with politicians to educate youth on Canadian citizenship, the Government of Canada and global issues. He has outlined 5 projects he is organizing including those of homelessness, children in need, supporting the Indigenous community, community clean-up, visiting Seniors at Christmas and addressing food insecurity. 

 James was awarded the prestigious Lieutenant Governor’s Education Medal for 2023-2024. In addition, James was selected as a Board Member with the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board to provide the mayor and council with a youth perspective on local issues. He also worked with Hand-in-Hand Ministries in April where he travelled to Belize and built a home for a family in need. He also volunteers with Chebucto minor hockey and worked as a volunteer coach with the RNS Yacht Squadron. He has also been a member of his school’s Student Council for 3 years, and was recently awarded the Academic Judge of the Month for outstanding academic achievement. James has volunteered over 1,000 hours with various organizations in the last 2 years. He has shown his desire and dedication to help improve the world through his participation in local, provincial and international initiatives.  He recognizes that his community has enriched his life, and he has found ways to give back to his community.

 James will be attending Dalhousie University in September, with a goal of completing a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He plans to continue his work with the Rotary Club.

Jaxson
Mullins-David

Jaxson is a motivated, “old soul” who loves history, research and geography.  He joined the local jack.org club which promotes the importance of mental health in his community via fundraisers and events.  Jaxson is a driven and determined individual who cares about the well-being of his community and its members. He works to address environmental sustainability issues through his involvement in the “Green Team.”  He likes to assist his neighbors with dog walking and he attends PLANS: Promoting Leadership in Health for African Nova Scotians. He also works with children with disabilities by taking them to the playground, reading to them and taking them on outings. 

 Jaxson has a strong commitment to his academic pursuits. He demonstrates an eagerness to learn and a passion for excellence in all of his endeavors.  He has a passion for many sports, which reflects his active lifestyle and demonstrates his ability to excel in diverse settings and collaborate effectively with others toward a common goal. 

 Jaxson’s African Canadian ancestry adds a rich cultural dimension to his identity, and serves as a source of inspiration and resilience, contributing to his unique perspective on life.

 Jaxson will be attending Dalhousie University in the fall for Applied Computer Science.

CPC Halifax Citadel members are committed to enhancing the quality of life in the community in which we live, most notably for women and children. With over 1,900 volunteer hours per year, our members can contribute to our community with a variety of organizations and we are pleased to offer a one-time $1000 post-secondary education bursary from our volunteer fundraising efforts.
